Whitespace Atlas

Cities where an artist’s audience is strong in Qloo’s taste data but few big tours came through, for 204 real touring artists. Display only: not a forecast of attendance or sales.

How whitespace is defined

Whitespace is a city where Qloo’s taste data says an artist’s audience is strong (top 10% of our 103 cities for that artist), where few big tours came through (tour traffic at or below the 103-city median of 23 of 246 tracked tours), that is outside the 12 biggest cities, and that is not within 60 miles of a big tour stop (100+ tracked tours, e.g. Riverside next to Los Angeles). Tour traffic is a big-tour proxy built from Wikipedia tour pages (2024–26), not a count of all shows. These 204 artists are the backtest’s real touring artists; each card shows up to three whitespace cities, best taste first. Display only: it says nothing about attendance or sales, and it does not change the ranking or the agent’s picks.

Where the whitespace is

Click a bubble, or a city below, to see its artists.

  • Bubble: artists for whom the city is whitespace
  • Amber core: those who actually played it

31 cities are whitespace for at least one artist. Most frequent: McAllen, TX (19 artists, 2 played), Salinas, CA (16 artists, 0 played), Asheville, NC (12 artists, 3 played), Knoxville, TN (9 artists, 3 played), Burlington, VT (8 artists, 0 played).

Bubble size: number of artists for whom the city is whitespace. Regional taste clusters (e.g. the Texas border) recur across many artists.

Across 204 artists, 141 whitespace picks; 13% were cities the artist really played (19). Descriptive and exploratory, not part of the pre-registered tests. A low share is expected: whitespace is where few big tours went, so it shows where taste runs ahead of touring, not a forecast. Some cities recur across many artists (McAllen, Salinas, Laredo, El Paso): regional taste clusters in Qloo’s data, not artist-specific picks. The planner link opens each artist’s tour-tested ranking, which favors bigger cities; whitespace cities can be added there by hand.
